This, can help the client be tranquil that he is working in a proper and lawful manner without being exposed as environmental laws violator.

2.    Mineral Conflict

Companies producing actual products, use different materials and different components using some unique and special minerals.

Many materials used in the Hi-Tech industry, especially noble metals of different kinds are mined and extracted in non-developed countries and conflict zones (mostly Africa) and in many case are extracted while violating human rights. This, cause the "Conflict Minerals" – as the companies produce their products for the benefit of the consumers and on the other hand may help non-humane deeds such as violation of human rights.

Those minerals are mined in zones where there is an ongoing armed conflict including wide scale violence and human rights violations and are characterized in non-stable political status, oppression, and collapse of civic infrastructure. In most case those actual minerals themselves are the cause for the conflict in these regions, or to its escalation.

The source for most mineral conflicts are in the eastern districts of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The main responsible factors for the conflict in those territories are local factors who are fighting for control of the mines of the precious minerals including the Army and some armed militias as well as factors from some other countries mainly neighboring like Uganda, Ruanda and Burundi that are smuggling goods from Congo.

In the mines of the conflict zones some Ores are mined that after a distillation process they distract minerals like tin, tungsten, tantalum and gold. These minerals are used to manufacture Electronic products such as: Mobile phones, Laptops, and Tablets sold widely around the world. The tremendous increase of the demand for those minerals as well as their price (mainly used in the electronics and jewelry industries) has led to vast abandon of traditional and other professions for the new job of mining. Together with a worsening the struggles for control in the mines between local militias, and between Congo and neighboring countries.

amongst The types of violations of human rights and international law, relating to these struggles include forced labor, punishment through rape and looting by the militias, the use of children soldiers, child labor in mines (40% of miners are children according to estimates), pollution of water resources, mining hazardous conditions and more.

The companies that use these minerals or mineral-containing components such as those ought to make sure they do not come from problematic places as aforesaid problem. To do so, there are Certifications to confirm it.

SEC Israel assist such companies with the relevant inspection of the components and in acquiring the necessary certificates where needed.
